Changing Lives Through Literature (CLTL) is a division of Changing Lives Milwaukee. CLTL is dedicated to positively redirecting children’s lives through reading, writing and speaking. CLTL will inspire, educate and proactively utilize literature as a fundamental means of promoting and maintaining ethical principles (morals & values) to transform the lives of youth. In turn, these youth will become productive members in society who will challenge the status quo and become strong voices to be reckoned with in their generation!
CLTL has created a project-oriented classroom experience that motivates students to learn language skills so they can achieve meaningful civic engagement. Step 1 in the program engages students in self-reflection. Step 2 is designed to elicit their commitment to work on a public campaign. Step 3 aims at leveraging that enthusiasm by giving students access to short instructional modules that build the skills they need to meet their objective. Step 4 seeks to make community engagement a lifestyle that continues after participants graduate.
